Does anyone know the history behind or has a theory about why Italian uses the definite article with possessive adjectives? (for example, ‘la mia casa’) It seems extremely rare in languages, if it exists at all in any others.

OMG someone explain why?! It annoyed me very much when I was learning Italian after French and Spanish and thought that it would be similar but noooo. I never understood why. Italian grammar annoys me so much.

Italian grammar is way crazier than french grammar.
